Dearden reminds me more and more of Cooper Cronk with each passing year.

Purdue has been great. Very tidy player for a 20-year-old.

How much better is the game with a sub-10 penalty count. Hopefully this is a new standard for 6 agains too. Wayyyyy too many last year.

Field width is gas, as is the lag on this site. Cowboys hopeless at adjusting to it. Dylan Brown is so meh. Imagine spending all that money on him when he already showed countless time at the Eels that he's a 6 and can't lead a side. Newcastle are going nowhere for years.

The agenda and axe-grinding directed at Michael Maguire is unbelievable. Tallis clearly has one because Madge replaced Kevvie but to try and say all three finals opponents lost the matches rather than Brisbane winning them is pathetic. Shows he only gives a shit about the success of the club on his and the old boy's terms.

Webster, Read and Rothfield saying they wouldn't extend Maguire's contract - he just took them to their first comp in 20 years with 3 come-from-behind victories against the best teams in the NRL. And they're STILL publishing articles about how he trains them too hard.

What fucking planet are these people on? If Maguire had been in Brisbane in 2023 they win that comp too. He won a decider in Qld, the first in 20 years. He's one of only a handful of coaches to win comps at multiple clubs. I'm not super keen on his personality but this sort of slander is beyond me. Results are what matter.

Yeah I'm not Madge's biggest fan either but the coach of the reigning premiers apparently being under the most pressure for his job heading into the season is totally insane.

You've just got to completely ignore rugby league media.

Him getting Tigers to 9th still his greatest achievement.

Brown one of the strangest signings I've ever seen.

Wests doing a similar thing with Luai wasn't going to work as a 7, but made some kind of sense, they were in a bit of a bind and needed a marquee signing/Luai would help them retain Api/target other Panthers etc.

This Dylan Brown one is just bizarre, who were they even bidding against?

Tedesco really has turned into a whiny little bitch. Has a sook every time a call goes against his team.

Klein ruling that knocked-back from the bunker. Just fuck this cunt off out of the game. He is beyond awful.

Staggs needs shooting for blowing that try. Brisbane have been putrid, even for round 1.

I dont know if there's a more improved or underrated half in the last couple years than Braydon Trindall. Kid can play.

I've had enough and we're only 9 games in. Is this really what we want RL to look and play like? 50 point average games rd1. Now 42 in the first half tonight. I've been banging on about the rule changes biasing the attack for 10 years but the 6 agains are beyond a joke, they're making it soo difficult to defend. The balance has swung way too much. You have to give the defence a proper chance.

That was so cool seeing Alex break the record. 56 years, wow.

Not even 2 rounds in and it's looking bloody ominous for everyone else the way Penrith are playing. That prelim loss is clearly driving them. When they hit 5th gear, I dunno who stops them or even comes close.

Wouldn't even make most first grade teams, I'd rather someone more deserving hold it.

I had them as favourites, and I thought so last year before the finals as well. Not much has changed, they lost to the Broncos cause of Talagi's defence (didn't wrap up Walsh). Having that one weakness can ruin their strategy. Amazing though how well they can maintain their defence given all the offensive rule changes. The loss of Katoa weakens the Storm a fair bit too so I'm not sure who else will be able to take down Penrith.

Wait no I didn't have Penrith as favs last year in the lead up to the finals, I had Storm pipping them in a tight contest like Brisbane ended up doing.

Penrith weren't as good as that scoreline suggested. Got some real piggy back penalties at crucial moments, lucky try from Garner strip as well.

Talagi a bit clunky/off in general I thought, but maybe that's a result of him feeling more comfortable to impose himself on the game. I thought Billy phillips had a few good moments off the bench.

Thats exactly the point tho. They were in 3rd gear for a lot of those first two matches and never looked like even being challeneged by two top 8 sides. The game was over at half time.

Defensively they were superb. When the attack gets into stride, yeah....it's their's to lose.
